Trauma Treatment
Experiencing events or periods of trauma that threaten your sense of safety and integrity leaves a mark on your life. Some of these marks become scars, while others never heal – continuing to haunt and cause you pain, and even develop into a Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Unfortunately, standard talk therapy is not always particularly effective for resolving trauma-related concerns. A more targeted treatment is often recommended.
At InnerWeave Psychology, we strive to provide comprehensive, trauma-informed services tailored to each of our clients. With specialized training in working with PTSD and complex trauma, we offer individual and group therapy to provide a supportive, nurturing environment where you can take the time needed to process traumatic memories at your own pace.
Individual Trauma Therapy
The following individual trauma-focused treatments are particularly effective in treating PTSD and other post-traumatic syndromes:
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is based on the idea that our brains have difficulty processing traumatic memories, leading to distress and other psychological issues. EMDR uses eye movements, hand tapping, or auditory tones to help the brain reprocess the traumatic memories, allowing for more positive thoughts and emotions.
Prolonged Exposure for PTSD
Prolonged Exposure (PE) is a type of CBT psychotherapy used to treat individuals suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This form of therapy encourages patients to confront their fears and triggers in a safe and controlled environment. Through the use of guided imagery, breathing techniques, and gradual exposure to trauma-related memories, PE helps patients learn to process their trauma and develop healthier coping strategies.
STAIR
Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation (STAIR) therapy is a form of psychotherapy focused on helping people who have experienced a traumatic event. It is an evidence-based approach that utilizes cognitive-behavioral techniques and interpersonal skills training to help people identify and regulate their emotions, and develop better communication and problem-solving skills.
Group Therapy for Trauma
Group therapy is a great source of support during challenging times and can complement your work in individual therapy.
